With a father like Lamar Hires how could Jared not be destined to dive? From the age of five he spent most of his time going to the springs to watch his dad dive and teach. He remembers, “During my dad’s surface intervals I would always steal his octopus, swim around and check out what was beneath the surface.”
Jared’s fascination with diving started at an early age. By the time he was seven he was a full blown diver, with a custom made harness and his first set of doubles, a set of double aluminum 13’s. As a kid Jared loved to ocean dive, with family trips to the Florida Keys amongst his favorite memories. Ultimately he fell in love with cave diving and now frequently dives the plentiful caves of North Florida and enjoys yearly trips to dive the cenotes in Mexico.
In 2006, when he was 15, Jared was certified to dive the O2ptima rebreather and became one of the youngest certified rebreather divers. Typically on weekends you can find him at the local springs diving the caves with his rebreather or tubing with friends. He also enjoys several other hobbies in between dives; including dry caving, snowboarding and motorcycle riding .
Jared says “I'm an avid diver and it is something I am truly in love with. Diving with the rebreather has brought something new to my diving and I am looking forward to all the new technological advances that are sure to come. I hope to continue my diving education and become an instructor one day.”
